PINKPOP is the oldest pop festival in Europe and will be holding its 51st edition in 2022, a unique record. In doing so, they remain true to tradition, as the festival was already listed in the Guiness Book of Records in 1990 as the oldest continuously organised open-air pop festival. Speaking of traditions: the name ‘Pinkpop’ comes from ‘Pop at Pentecost (Pinksteren in Dutch)’ and the festival is usually organised during the Pentecost weekend. Amen and hallelujah!
In three days time, you can enjoy more than 50 top acts on four outdoor stages and one stage in a big tent on the Pinkpop festival grounds. Some of the legendary artists you could have admired on the mainstage are: Rolling Stones, Dire Straits, Metallica, Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Fleetwood Mac, The Cure and Mumford and Sons.
Next to the main venue you will find smaller areas like the “Take it Easy Lane” or “Garden of Love” with more diversity in food and drinks and a place to relax. At the festival market, Pinkpop offers a unique range of Bohemian design, vintage, boots, bags, shirts, sunglasses, hats, jewellery and more! It is primarily a place of designs by creative exhibitors.
In total, Pinkpop attracted nearly 2.7 million visitors in the past half century. Record year is 2014 with the Rolling Stones, where 134,000 unique visitors turned up for a party in three days.
Fun facts: in 2017 Justin Bieber asked for eight different kinds of chewing gum before his performance. That’s actually nothing compared to the demands of the Rolling Stones. Those grey rockers presented a rider of no less than 200 pages thick. They installed themselves at Pinkpop with a truck full of English furniture, a snooker table and pinball machines.
